Both are true. Not in sequence—simultaneously. It's like how light is both particle and wave, depending on how you measure it. The paradox dissolves when you stop trying to make reality choose.
Why Practice, Then? The Real Answer
Think of it this way: your true nature is like the sun. Always shining, always there. But clouds cover it. You can't create the sun—it already exists. But you can clear the clouds.
Practice isn't about becoming enlightened. It's about removing the barriers to experiencing what's already true. You're not reaching for something distant. You're turning toward what's right here.
In Taoist terms, this is wu wei—effortless action. Not "do nothing," but aligned action that moves with reality rather than against it. The practice is the already-whole-ness expressing itself through your choices.
Here's the shift: when you stop practicing to *get* somewhere and start practicing as an *expression* of what you already are, everything changes. The striving dissolves. The practice becomes natural.
What This Means for Your Daily Life
You don't meditate to become worthy. You meditate because your deepest nature finds peace in stillness, and practice helps you remember that.
You don't work on your patterns to earn enlightenment. You work on them because healing is what wholeness naturally does—like a body mending a wound.
You don't study sacred texts to gain special knowledge. You study them because truth recognizing itself in truth is inherently nourishing.
This reframe matters for younger seekers especially. Many of you come to practice burned out from the hustle culture narrative: always improving, always becoming, never enough. Spiritual practice can become another treadmill.
But it doesn't have to be. When you understand that practice flows from wholeness rather than toward it, you can finally rest into the work itself.
The Integration
The paradox isn't meant to be solved intellectually. It's meant to be lived. Your practice—whether meditation, yoga, study, or service—gradually teaches you that both truths are operating simultaneously.
You *are* already complete. And you're also growing. These aren't contradictory. They're dance partners.
The seeking itself is the being. The practice is the arrival.
So sit down. Meditate. Not to become whole, but to align with the wholeness that never left. That's the real paradox—and it's the most liberating one you'll ever encounter.
